A Show of Hands: Pray

People pray in many different ways for many different reasons.  Prayer can be a time to connect, to reflect, or to meditate.   It can be done out loud, with others, or in complete silence. It has the ability to create a sense of calm, hope, or reassurance. Regardless of how people pray, I think most would agree on one thing– prayer is powerful.

I like how the hands are not in perfect symmetry. A little discomforting, but also something different. At least I would not think of drawing like that! I would always want to push it back towards the centre as much as possible.

I draw this series from reference photos of my own hands. I shoot the photos unless it involves both of my hands–my daughter shoots those. The angle was a little odd in this particular photo, but I felt a sense of desperation from the way my hands were positioned. I kind of liked it! 🙂
